Perform Better And Achieve Your Goals
Netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries worldwide and is most popular in Commonwealth nations. Netball is the most popular women’s sport in Australia with an estimated one million players nationwide.
Knee, ankle and hand injuries are the most common injuries in netball players. Sixty percent of all injuries in netball were knee and lower leg injuries, with most of these injuries occur on landing and changing direction, often in a non-contact situation. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is commonly injured, representing approximately 25% of serious injuries annually reported (Netball Australia National Insurance Data). Netballers are not far behind the football codes when it comes to knee surgery, and recovery from surgery for ACL injury often takes between 9 and 18 months. Prevention of knee and other lower limb injuries is important to maximise performance on and off the court.
Sports physiotherapy is about enhancing performance, not just treating injuries. Would you like to be able to reach higher when holding a defensive hand over a shot? Would you like more power in your passing? Would you like to have a better defensive position and ability to change direction? These can all be related to your body type and physical characteristics, and therefore are trainable and improvable.
RHP Physiotherapists can assess your landing patterns, balance, range of motion, and strength to guide exercise choice and training advice. The amount and types of different training can be explained and managed to improve physical performance and reduce the risk of injury.
