Exercise Classes

PHYSIO CORE Exercise Classes

It’s no secret that exercise and activity are essential for living a healthy life, however sometimes it is difficult to know what type of exercise is best to do!

Exercise classes offered at RHP Physiotherapy are suitable for a range of conditions, injuries and people (of all ages).  Our classes are run by a Physiotherapist and are individualised.  This means the exercises you are doing will be specific to your needs in helping you achieve your goals.  Because of this, exercise class is particularly beneficial for sufferers of chronic conditions, back pain, recovery from surgery and injury and much more.  Our classes also cater for and are beneficial for those not injured!

What our class offers:

  •   We utilise pilates principles and exercises for ‘core’ muscle stability and strength
  •   Target co-ordination, balance and movement skill training
  •   Aim to correct muscle imbalances leading to improved movement efficiency
  •   Use equipment such as wobble boards, Janda sandals, exercise balls, BOSU, free form and many more.  This offers a variety of exercises in a class
  •   Focus on self help principles for on-going improvement and management
  •

Our Wednesday Exercise classes particularly cater for an older exercise group focusing on balance, co-ordination, posture and strength.  These core skills are particularly important for keeping you mobile and reducing risk of falls whilst decreasing pain in the spine, hips, knees, ankles and shoulders.

The staff at RHP Physiotherapy have been using the exercise class equipment for over 10 years and will expertly guide you in a fun, sociable atmosphere how to correctly and safely help your body to better health.   At RHP we are focused on the quality of exercises performed and hence limit class sizes to cater for appropriate attention to all class members.

If you have any questions regarding the suitability of these classes (or would just like to talk to somebody about them) then please call RHP Physiotherapy of (07) 3856 5566.

Maximum of 6-8 per class.

BALANCE STRENGTH HARMONY

Ask yourself these questions… When was last time your body moved in any direction other that straight ahead? When was the last time you were able to twist behind you without feeling like something was going to break?  Check your posture right now as you sit here… how many hours a day do you spend like this?

Now the question is… What can you do to change?

‘Often what we really need is the thing we have been distancing ourselves from the most.’

This 6 week beginner’s course will provide you with the foundation for the most essential elements of yoga.  Learn to strengthen, tone, and relax the entire body with physical postures (asanas). Gain an understanding of the importance of breathing (pranayama) and mediatation and how they can help you in your everyday life.   By challenging the body intelligently, we encourage weak areas to strengthen and tight areas to relax.   This allows poor postural habits to unwind and your body to realign to an upright posture that promotes ease of movement. With Tom, a trained yoga teacher, yoga teacher trainer and physiotherapist guiding you through your practice, rest assured that you are in the right hands.

Unifying body, breath and mind allows people to reconnect to their own proprioceptive (body awareness) facilities.   Achieving greater body awareness improves performance, increases wellbeing and reduces injury risk.

Yoga is a practical aid, it is not a religion.

Yoga is suitable for everyone regardless of age, sex or physical ability.

Yoga is what you have been looking for if you are stressed, stiff or struggling to find balance.

Yoga is the perfect cross training tool.  It doesn’t matter if you lace up for a jog twice a week or run ultra marathons, swim for Australia or struggle your way around a golf course once a month – Yoga can help!

6 week beginner course includes:

  • Initial one on one consultation (1hr)
  • 6 x 1hr weekly classes (6:00-7:00pm)
  • Access to online tips, pictures and video material
  • Pre and post course assessment
  • Limited to 6 participants
  •

Cost $250 (with course fees able to be claimed on health benefits)

RHP Pilates

Pilates has fast become one of the most recommended forms of exercise by health care professionals for its ability to assist in injury management and prevention.

At RHP Physiotherapy, we have these types of classes one step further with our specific knowledge on injury rehabilitation.

How does RHP Pilates work?

When we look at the body, muscles can be broken into 2 groups.  The stability muscles (which control joints and prevent injury) and the movement muscles (which create movement and are the bigger, forceful muscles).

To move well, efficiently and be pain-free the body needs to have a balance between stability and movement muscles.  Often this is not the case and movement muscles become over dominant while stability muscles become weak and under-used.  When this occurs, injuries are more likely to result and if this imbalance is not addressed then injuries often re-occur!

Improving the activity and strength of stability muscles is relevant for just about everyone and every injury/condition.   Pilates is an excellent form of exercise that is low load, safe and easy on the body BUT is focussed on engaging and improving the activity of stability muscles.   Pilates is therefore a beneficial exercise approach for a variety of injuries and conditions.  Some examples include:

  • improving lumbar spine awareness and posture for low back pain, neck pain and headaches
  • improving stability muscle control around the shoulder for neck pain, headaches, shoulder injuries and predominant upper body sports (swimming, tennis, throwing sports)
  • improvement of trunk and pelvic control for the management of lower limb injuries (shin splints, hip and knee pain)
  • safe and effective low load exercise for chronic and degenerative conditions (such as arthritis, chronic pain conditions)
  • overall enhancement of athletic performance by fine-tuning the body’s ability to use muscles optimally and efficiently

RHP Pilates classes are run by a Physiotherapist and are designed so that YOU are doing exercises that are relevant to YOUR needs.    Classes are kept to a maximum of 6 people to ensure ample supervision and instruction for safe and effective exercises.
