Paediatric Occupational Therapy
Sharon Joyce
Sharon has joined forces with RHP Physiotherapy as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist. Originally trained in South Africa, Sharon has obtained a broad range of paediatric experience over the past 13 years and has specialised in the assessment and treatment of children from birth to 10 years with developmental delays, sensory integration issues, feeding, toileting needs and visual perceptual issues. She has both Sensory integration and Nerro-developmental qualifications and experience.
Sharon ran her own private practice at a Cambridge affiliated school in Johannesburg for 9 years as well as a home-based practice focusing on early intervention with under three's. Since, she has immigrated to Brisbane in 2009 and gained experience within the public sector at the Royal Children's Hospital where she was trained in and ran individual and group SOS feeding sessions within a multi-disciplinary team. She also ran a Behavioural Toileting clinic and was part of the Infant team and Child Development clinics.
She has a passion for early intervention and was the co-dounder of the "Wendyhouse" mother and baby/todler workshops run in Johannesburg for the past 10 years. Her treatment is family centered and she believes that parents are the experts when it comes to their children's wants and needs. She seeks to encourage a child's development using all sensory and motor experiences available to that child within the family context.
